Leah + Colin | Wedding Photography in Waterloo, ON

What a beautiful day! Rain fell generously from the sky all afternoon until late evening, but nothing could dampen the spirits of the two incredible families as they celebrated the marriage of Leah + Colin. This is their wedding story.

PREPARATION
The minute we arrived at Colin’s home for preparation, we were greeted at the door by their puppy, Lexington (affectionately known as Lexi). She welcomed us with a sniff. We headed upstairs to get the guys in action. They ironed their shirts, expertly folded their pocket squares and dressed for the day. Colin’s parents entered the home with hugs and smiles. Colin handed the boys a gift to thank them for being a part of the day, then settled into a chair to open a present from Leah. After a tender moment reading the card, he placed the new watch from his bride-to-be on his wrist. Colin’s dad readied hand towels to wipe off chairs for the outdoor ceremony, then led us to meet Leah and the ladies at her parent’s place.

Leah was a beautiful and bubbly sight to see. She excitedly showed us her dress, shoes, grandmother’s priceless heirlooms (purse, gloves and ring), and the fashionable boxes containing gifts for her bridal party. You could tell she was overjoyed to be marrying her best friend. Upstairs, Leah slipped into her gorgeous form-fitting, bodice-style satin gown with the help of her mother, Colin’s mother and sister who buttoned each delicate button. All the ladies were summoned to the room for the presentation of gifts. After opening their personalized packages, everyone headed to the living room for a quick doughnut treat.

CEREMONY
When we arrived at the farm for the outdoor ceremony, the groomsmen were wiping down the water-drenched seats. The rain was relentless. All the guests arrived, umbrellas in tow, to witness the wedding. Colin stood by the arbor, in the rain, with a smile on his face, as Leah approached him. Nothing else mattered. As he even said, cleverly, in his speech, it’s harder to untie a wet knot. Underneath an umbrella in the storm, among their loved ones, Leah + Colin were pronounced husband and wife. They walked down the aisle hand-in-hand to a shelter to sign the marriage license.

CREATIVE
It was an intimate gathering in the shelter, with family members and the couple, as everyone waited before taking their turn to brave the storm for family portraits. After a quick family session, the bridal party jumped in trucks and rode as a caravan to a friend’s barn for photos.

RECEPTION
The reception was held at an impressive historic, brick building — the Tannery Event Centre in downtown Kitchener, ON. The guests awaited the arrival of the bridal party, while enjoying cocktail hour in the candlelit hall. The emcees announced the grand entrance, which was followed by the first dance and a combined parent dance. After a blessing of the food, dinner was served.

The decor was a wonderful mix of country meets technology. Lanterns, candles and white floral arrangements were set around the room, and wooden crates accented the head table, while the backdrop was a screen filled with visual imagery.

Once dessert was served, members of the family (along with the couple) shared hilarious stories and sweet words of encouragement. The emcees wrapped up the toasts (twice) and the party began! Leah lit up the dance floor with her Taylor Swift moves, and her friends joined in! What a fun night!

THANK YOU
Leah + Colin, what can we say! You are an incredible couple! Your love for one another and your family is amazing and admirable. It’s so beautiful to see that same love reciprocated by those closest to you! Thank you for inviting us to share in your special day, and giving us the opportunity to meet the wonderful people in your lives. We wish you many years of happiness!
