Alycia + Matt | Wedding Photography in Muskoka, ON

There are three words that immediately pop into mind when we think of Alycia + Matt – family, friends and tradition.  Each of those elements define who they are as a couple.  Their strong values and affection for their loved ones helped to create a memorable day.  This is their wedding story.

PREPARATION
We started the day with Alycia and the ladies at a cozy cottage in Muskoka.  Alycia was seated by the patio with her hairdresser, so we headed upstairs to get a peek of the dress.  A golden yellow, silk gown hung in the window, overlooking the lake, surrounded by lovely white bridesmaids dresses.  Yes, white bridesmaid dresses and a yellow wedding gown.  We loved it!  Each wedding we attend is so special in its own way because every couple is unique.  This is a perfect example of their distinction.  Why a yellow wedding dress, we wondered.  Well, the video tells the story of the gown’s significance. Family. Matt’s grandmother designed a yellow gown during the war with parachute fabric, and since family is so important to the two of them, they chose to honour her by wearing the dress.  Also, yellow just happens to be Alycia’s favourite colour.

The guys were down the road, hanging out at Matt’s parent’s cottage, playing games in the yard.  Matt dressed (while singing a stirring rendition of “Sitting On The Dock Of The Bay” with his groomsmen accompanied by Nate on acoustic guitar), opened his gift from Alycia, then got back to a serious game of croquet.

Alycia tearfully read her card from Matt, then opened the gift he gave her.  She, then, excitedly went upstairs to get into her dress and head out the door.

CEREMONY
Tradition. Matt’s dad started a tradition where his sons would have to sport authentic Dutch clogs for their wedding ceremony. So, Matt loudly clomped down the aisle in the traditional shoes to the front of the altar. Giggles and smiles filled the room with every step he took. Alycia joined him in at the front and the two became husband and wife. The entire room at St. Peter the Apostle Catholic Church broke into applause!

CREATIVE
The entire wedding party jumped on the bus and headed to The Stockey Centre. We took a moment for some family photos, then drove to the dock of the bay. But we couldn’t waste any time because a torrential downpour enveloped us. In between shelter breaks, we got some fun portraits of the bridal party and couple in downtown Parry Sound. Then, it was back to The Stockey Centre to explore to explore this beautiful venue. Once the rain ended, we got the chance to head outside again to witness a stunning sunset.

RECEPTION
Friends. All the friends and family of Alycia + Matt were gathered in The Stockey Centre enjoying beverages and conversation in the foyer. Everyone was asked to be seated for the grand entrance. The bridal party made a train into the room with Alycia + Matt as the loose caboose. The best man, matron of honour and parents gave wonderful toasts to the couple, including more traditional rites of passage. Once speeches and dinner ended, the room was transformed into a dance hall, so the couple could share in their exuberant first dance. Parent dances followed, then Jeff Young and The Muskoka Roads took the stage. Party time!

THANK YOU
Alycia + Matt, what a fun day! Sun, clouds, rain, monsoon, gorgeous sunsets – we had it all and it was a blast! Thank you for the laughs, songs and stories. You’re truly a lovely couple! We wish you all the best!
