Wedding Photography at Trafalgar Castle in Whitby, ON

Alana + Paul | Wedding Photography in Whitby, ON

Do you remember that one wedding where the bride’s brother entered the reception hall flipping around on his skateboard? Or, the one where the bride’s dress ripped at the party, but then, her grandmother sewed the seams back together by hand? Or, the time when we found out that Michaels Stores is open on Saturdays until 9:00pm, but they don’t sell sewing kits? Or, the time when the couple performed a beautiful choreographed first dance for the crowd (including lifts!!)? And, remember that time we had the most amazing sunset!?! Oh wait. That all happened at the same wedding!! Yes, Alana + Paul’s epic wedding day is definitely one to remember.

It’s hard to know where to begin. How about we start in the presidential suite at the Delta East Hotel in Scarborough, where we met Paul and his brothers.

Yes, the fancy presidential suite, with a shower where water streams from the ceiling and shoots at you from both sides. This massive room was fit for a king … or a president … or Paul and the guys. They all got dressed, then headed out the door to make their way over to the castle. Yes, a castle. But we’ll get to that in a moment.

We met Alana and her family in Whitby, five minutes away from the ceremony location, as she was just finishing her make-up. She put on her gown with the help of her best friend, Christina Lee. You may remember Christina from her rock the dress session two years ago. If not, you can view it here. After spending a few moments with Alana, we got in the car and drove down the road to the castle.

Trafalgar Castle School is an academic institution for young women. Alana, actually, attended this school for a few years in her youth, so this location has special meaning for her and her family. Alana + Paul shared their heart-felt vows with one another, then danced down the aisle to “Happy Together” by The Turtles, and out the doors as husband + wife.

The creative session was held on the stunning grounds of Trafalgar Castle School, and within the majestic castle structure.

After capturing some great photographs of the bridal party, it was time to head to Heydenshore Pavilion to start the reception. The bridal party entered the room, led by Racy on his skateboard. Speeches were filled with love and well wishes for the newlyweds, sprinkled with moving personal stories of hope, healing and appreciation.

It was truly an amazing day, filled with so many unique and impactful moments, as well as a wonderful cast of characters. We loved every moment!

Congratulations Alana + Paul. Thank you for introducing us to your incredible family! Enjoy your honeymoon!

  2. Melanie and Paul, it was absolutely wonderful to have you two shoot my best friend Alana’s and her new hubby Paul’s wedding last weekend!! You did amazing work for my own “Rock the Dress” shoot two years ago and we knew you were great, but you have proceeded to blow us away and exceed all of our expectations yet again!! Not only are you amazingly talented photographers / videographers, but you are both such kind and warmhearted people that are great to share a wedding celebration with. And to top it all off, you are always there to help with anything, even going way above and beyond, such as helping with “wardrobe malfunctions” to ensure the night goes smoothly! I would recommend you again and again and again to anyone I know with any photography needs, and look forward to seeing you both again in the near future!!

  7. Paul and Melanie, you are an amazing team and the photos you took at Alana and Paul’s wedding and exquisite and captured all the joy and love of the day. Are you sure you took them? …. as I hardly ever saw you ! You both work with a quiet authority, never a flash “in your face”, non intrusive, and almost invisible… and I think that is one of the reasons you are able to take such amazing photos…..no one ever knows you are there! Plus you have the ‘gift’ of knowing when to press the shutter, and not have thousands of photos…no photo shop necessary…..just hundreds that are capture special moments in a special Darlington way. You are both light bearers, through the technology of cameras, and have brought light , love, and laughter in a memorable and lasting photos. As Alana’s parents, we thank you from the bottom of our hearts.
