Christine + Kayan | Wedding Cinema in Muskoka, ON

Foodie.  A foodie is someone devoted to refined enjoyment of good food and drink.  Christine (a.k.a. FABChanner) is a fierce epicurist! So, when it came time to marry Kayan, they both made sure that delectable fare was a forerunner in their celebration.

We met Christine + Kayan through Ryan + Erika, our talented friends over at Rowell Photography.  Christine + Kayan were seeking someone to film their wedding day, so we were delighted when they were sent our away.  We arranged a Skype chat to get to know them, due to the distance (they live in Edmonton, AB) and were overjoyed when they chose us to capture their day.

A few months ago, we met up with Christine, her sister (Colleen) and Holly Carney from Holly Matrimony (event planner extraordinnaire) at Taboo Resort to do a walk-through of the day.  It was so wonderful to finally meet the bubbly Christine in person.  She was just finishing a food tasting (chicken and waffles), but stopped to give big hugs, before we all headed out the door for a tour of the resort.

Fast forward to the first weekend of October at Taboo Resort in Muskoka.  Rain poured from the sky, as Holly and the staff at Taboo prettied The Boathouse for the ceremony and reception.  We met Christine + Kayan in their rooms, as they were preparing for the ceremony.  Christine, already dressed in her first dress of the day (a gorgeous, flowing, strapless gown), was the picture of poise and calm, as she sipped champagne and opened her surprise gift from Kayan.  The ladies were wearing stunning royal blue gowns designed by Eva, a family friend.  Downstairs, Kayan put on his watch (a present from Christine) to make sure he was on time for the main event.  They were adorable.

We took the indoor path leading from the main lobby to The Boathouse and set up for their outdoor ceremony on the covered dock.   All the guests were seated.  The violinist played the processional.  Christine began her walk down the aisle, escorted by her mother.  Kayan could hardly contain his emotion when he saw his beautiful bride.  Their personalized vows were endearing and fun.  They spoke of their love for one another and whole-hearted devotion.  Christine + Kayan were pronounced husband and wife by the officiant, and sealed their declaration with a kiss.

Then, it was time to party!  The guests went inside for cocktails, as Christine + Kayan, the bridal party and their family traveled to the lake for photos.  The chef and his team immediately began setting up the various food stations in the hall.  The guests chatted and enjoyed fancy hot apple cider with cinnamon stick straws and other delicious drinks, while taking time to sign the couple’s future anniversary bottles of champagne (Year One, Two, Five and Ten).  Once the couple returned to The Boathouse, and all the guests were situated around the room (standing, seated at intimate cocktail tables or on white couches accented with royal blue pillows), the DJ introduced the parents, bridesmaids, groomsmen, the best man and maid of honour.  The bridal party entered carrying in huge yellow balloons from the photo session (which would later be used for their super fun photo booth).  Christine’s best friend, Cory, and emcee Colleen pumped up the crowd for the introduction of the King and Queen, Christine + Kayan.  The whistle blew, and Joy, the steelpan drummer, entered the room.  Christine + Kayan followed behind with Caribbean flags raised.  The couple danced into the room, as the whole room cheered!

Christine + Kayan wanted to get to the food portion of the reception, so they did a most amazing thing.  They decided to get all the formalities out of the way, so they could set the party off.  Immediately following their grand entrance, they gave a short speech, cut their cake, grooved to their first dance, and finished with the garter and bouquet toss.  Fabulous!  Done and done.  Time to dine.  The food stations opened and guests were met with a brilliant array of succulent dishes from gourmet macaroni and cheese (Mac Daddy and Cheese), mouth-watering poutine, scrumptious chicken and waffles, a delightful sweet table and yummy cotton candy.  It was a bon vivant’s dream come true!

Christine + Kayan headed back to the main house to don their evening apparel, then joined the festivities.  The photo booth opened down the hall, and the DJ started to play a variety of songs from ska to reggae to old school R&B jams.  The dance floor was packed! Everyone, including the exuberant newlyweds, partied the night away!

Thank you Christine + Kayan for allowing us to film your fabulous wedding day!  You’re married! Halleleryah!
