We first met Silvie at a local bridal show, and were struck by her sweet personality. When she and Shawn chose us to photograph their wedding, we were elated! We knew, even then, that it was going to be an incredible day.
Shawn + Silvie were married at Nottawasaga Inn Resort in Alliston, ON. Forceful Hurricane Irene winds swept all the way up here to Ontario, but that couldn’t (and didn’t) stop the two of them from expressing their love for one another in their outdoor ceremony by the water. Shawn + Silvie chose to bind their union with two special traditions – the forging of sand and a foot washing. We’ve heard of the foot washing custom before, but this was our first time ever witnessing this meaningful event. Shawn + Silvie chose to begin their new life together, passionately pursuing God and sacrificially loving each other. As a symbol of that vow, they chose to wash each other’s feet.
In the Bible, there was a moment in Jesus’ ministry where he humbled himself by washing his disciples’ feet. “When he had washed their feet and put on his outer garments and resumed his place, he said to them, ‘Do you understand what I have done to you? You call me Teacher and Lord and you are right for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Teacher, have washed your feet, you also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that you also should do this just as I have done to you.” – John 13:12-15
It was an emotional ceremony, filled with tears, laughter and prayers for the couple. Afterwards, we took some photos in the beautiful wedding gardens, and even took a moment to play mini golf and arcade games in the Sports and LeisureDome. We had such a fun time and feel so blessed to have been invited to capture their wedding day. Shawn + Silvie, we wish you all the best! We can’t wait for your Rock The Dress session this Labour Day Monday!
